Castore Durante

Castore Durante (* 1529 in Gualdo Cattaneo, † 1590 in Viterbo ) was an Italian physician and botanist and physician to Pope Sixtus V.

Ehrentaxon

Charles Plumier named in his honor, the genus of the plant family Castorea the verbena family ( Verbenaceae ). Carl Linnaeus rejected the name and named the genus Duranta. Philip Miller attacked later the generic name Castorea again.
