Geography

Castro Daire is located on the Rio Paiva, below the up to 1,381 meters high Serra de Montemuro. About 30 km to the south is the district capital of Viseu, about 30 km north Lamego.

History

Findings and excavations indicate a prehistoric settlement in the present-day county area, including Neolithic Antas and dolmens in the community Monteiras, Mamoas in Almofala, and petroglyphs in Picão. From the Castro culture, the hill forts ( Maga Castro da ) originate in Moledo and Cabril (Castro de Canbril ).

In the 2nd century BC, the territory became Roman. A Roman road ran through the present district area, including Roman pottery and coins have been found here. The 19th-century Ponte Pedrinha also goes back to a Roman bridge. After the invasion of Germanic tribes in the 5th century, the area was in connection Arabic, after taking the Iberian Peninsula by the Moors in the 8th century.

The present district was established in the course of 1139 from successful endeavor independence of the Kingdom of Portugal. First City rights were granted Castro Daire Portugal's first king, Afonso Henriques, but no exact date has been handed down. The city rights were renewed in 1514 by King Manuel I.. In the course of administrative reform by the Liberal Revolution in 1822 and the subsequent Miguelistenkrieg the municipality of Castro Daire has also undergone significant expansion.

Culture and sights

Numerous excavations and finds can be seen in the circle, including the archaeological site Portas de Montamuro in the community Cabril.

In the community Mamouros the spa Termas do Carvalhal is. Various, partly thematic trails are created in the circle. In addition, offer a range equipped Miradouros ( viewpoints ) wide views.

The football club Grupo Desportivo Parada played (2012/2013) in the Série C III ª Divisão ( 4.Liga ).

Castro Daire is located on the A24 motorway and along the national road N228.

The village is part of the nationwide bus network of speech Expressos.

A separate connection to the railway network of the country has not the place of the nearest railway station is Viseu.
