Catahoula Parish, Louisiana
The Catahoula Parish (French: Paroisse de Catahoula ) is a parish located in the state of Louisiana in the United States. In 2010, the Parish had 10,407 inhabitants and a population density of 5.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( Parish Seat) is Harrisonburg.

The Parish is located in the north-central Louisiana, is in the east just 35 km from Mississippi and has an area of 1915 square kilometers, of which 93 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following Parishes:

The Catahoula Parish was formed in 1808 from parts of Ouachita Parish and Rapides Parish of.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Catahoula Parish 10,920 people in 4,082 households and 2,992 families. The population density was 6 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 71.78 percent White, 27.12 percent Black or African American, 0.19 percent Native American, 0.13 percent Asian, and 0.19 percent from other races; 0.59 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.92 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race, were members of the various groups mentioned.
Of the 4,082 households out of which 32.7 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 54.7 percent were married couples living together, 14.5 percent were single mothers, 26.7 percent were non-families, 24.3 percent of all households and 11.3 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.02.
In relation to the parish the population was spread out 25.8 percent of residents under the age of 18, 10.0 percent between 18 and 24 years, 26.8 percent between 25 and 44 years, 23.0 percent between 45 and 64 years and 14.4 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 100.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.0 males.
The median income for a household was $ 22,528, and the median income for a family was $ 27,206. Males have a median income of $ 26,181, women $ 18,427. The per capita income was $ 12,608. 22.6 percent of families 28.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 41.8 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 20.1 percent of those 65 years.
