Catalan shawm

The Tible ( catalan el tible, dt Diskantschalmei ) is a typical Catalan woodwind instrument with a double reed. It is derived similar to the Tenora from the medieval xeremia (German: shawm ), specifically the xeremia tible ago.

Construction

The Tible is significantly smaller than the Tenora and made ​​contrary to this completely out of the wood of the Jews mandrel ( Ziziphus jujuba or jujube ). It is about 55 cm long and consists of three parts: the upper and middle parts carry the flap system; at the lower, distal part there are four holes.

Musical characteristics and use

The Tible is tuned in F major. It has a range of 2.5 octaves, from A2 to E5. His timbre is a bit garish. It is used as an instrument in Cobla, the Sardana Chapel, in Catalonia, where it often leads musical dialogues with the Tenora.
