Catalina Castaño

Catalina Castaño Álvarez (born 7 July 1979, Pereira, Departamento de Risaralda ) is a Colombian tennis player.

Career

Castaño began at the age of ten years playing tennis. She prefers to play on clay.

Since 2005, she defeated several top 20 players, including Nicole Vaidišová, Anna -Lena Grönefeld, Patty Schnyder, Li Na and Paola Suárez. On 10 July 2006 she reached her highest individual placement with position 35. As of November 2006, she was a long time the highest ranked South American female tennis player in the world rankings.

Her first title on the WTA Tour won Castaño July 22, 2012 with Mariana Duque Mariño doubles partner in Båstad. On February 17, 2013, it won at the age of 32 years, the Challenger tournament in Cali, again with Duque Mariño at her side. On the same day she missed her seventh ITF title when she was beaten in the singles final Lara Arruabarrena- Vecino.
