Catalogue of Galaxies and Clusters of Galaxies

The Catalogue of Galaxies and of Clusters of Galaxies, also briefly Zwicky catalog, is compiled by Fritz Zwicky and employees Catalogue of galaxies and clusters of galaxies. As a shortcut for the catalog and its identifier for objects found both CGCG and warranty package use.

The Zwicky catalog was created on the basis of photographic images of the sky. A total of about 30,000 galaxies, and about 10,000 galaxy clusters are included. Between 1961 and 1968 a total of six volumes of the catalog was published by Zwicky at the California Institute of Technology. The goal was to capture all galaxies brighter than 15.5 mag north of 30 ° south latitude, and any member of reach bright galaxies in this field. For the galaxy positions and magnitudes are given. The galaxy clusters are as open, medium compact and compact classified. Membership, location, extent and estimated distance are given.
