Catandica

Catandica (formerly Vila Gouveia ) is a small town in Mozambique with about 29,000 inhabitants ( 2008).

Geography

Catandica is located in the district barg, ( Manica province ), about 30 kilometers from the border with Zimbabwe and 300 kilometers from Beira located on 536 m height. The district takes its name from the ancient kingdom of barg.

History

The town was founded in 1915 as Vila Gouveia and renamed Catandica only after the independence of Mozambique in 1975.
