Catenet
Catenet is a term from the early days of the Internet, called a packet-switched network as a merger of smaller networks. The Internet in its present form is the largest existing Catenet.
A more precise definition can be read in Vinton Cerfs technical report "The Catenet Model for Internetworking ," from 1978, by ( " confederation of co -operating networks" ) is explained with predefined rules on interconnection, on the whole, an alliance of cooperating networks.
The term Catenet is mentioned, for example, even in RFC 777 and RFC 792 ( Internet Control Message Protocol by Jon Postel ).
