Caterina Assandra

Caterina Assandra (* 1590 in Pavia; † after 1618) was an Italian composer and Benedictine nun.

Life

Caterina Assandra received her training through the possible originating from the German language area Don Benedetto Re, who was from 1606 to 1626 organist at the Cathedral of Pavia. Presumably, in view of their occurrence in an order they made ​​the training. In a preface to the works of Giovanni Paolo Cima Assandra Catarina is extremely honorable mentions as a composer by the publisher of her two collections, Filippo Lomazzo. Assandra wrote a Orgeltabulatur and composed two collections of motets. She spent her life in Sant'Agata monastery in Lomello in which they occurred probably 1609.

Works

  • My first art collection op 1 of about 1608 is considered lost, only their Orgeltabulatur is obtained.
  • The Motetti à due, & tre voci, op 2 (Milan, 1609) were devoted to the bishop of Pavia, Count Giovanni Battista Biglio. A copy is in the Thurn and Taxis Court Library in Regensburg.
