Cathedral of Blessed Mother Teresa in Pristina

The Mother Teresa Cathedral (Albanian Katedralja e së Lumes Nënë Tereza ) is an in- building Roman Catholic cathedral in the capital Pristina Kosovo. She is Co-Cathedral of the Apostolic Administration of Prizren.

History

The foundation stone was laid on 26 August 2005 instead, but the construction work only began on September 5, 2007., 2010, the consecration service was held, which was attended by numerous politicians and clergy of the country. The Cathedral was named in honor of Mother Teresa. 2015, the construction works are expected to be fully completed.

They should reflect the harmonious coexistence of the Catholic minority with the Muslim majority. The construction of the church was 2005, the then president of Kosovo, Ibrahim Rugova initiated. Right next to the cathedral and the residence of the Kosovar archbishop was built.

The Kosovar Muslims voices were raised to build a large new mosque as a symbol of religious harmony beside the cathedral. Because until now have Muslims in Pristina has not its own large mosque. Most date from the Ottoman era and in the prayer rooms, there has long been a lack of space. The controversial debate about the planning of such a mosque escalated quite a few times in protests by Muslims praying in the streets. Again and again had to intervene and resolve the amount the police.

Architecture

The Mother Teresa Cathedral is a three-aisled basilica in modern -adapted forms of Italian Romanesque transept and apse with the south and an attached bell tower on the east side. In the architectural form is an enlarged replica of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Prizren.
