Cathedral of Saint Lawrence (Prague)

The St. Lawrence Church on the Petrin ( Kostel sv. Vavřince na Petříně ) is the cathedral church of the bishop of the Old Catholic Church in the Czech Republic. The church, dedicated to Saint Lawrence is on the Petřin in Prague. With other important buildings it is one of the sights of Prague's Lesser Town.

History

The first mention is in 1135th It is believed that it was built on the site of a pagan cult site 991 by Saint Adalbert, as shown by the statue of 1824 and the ceiling fresco in the sacristy of 1735. The German name for the Laurenziberg Petřin is derived from this church. Reign of Charles IV, the church was involved in the Walling.

Architecture

Remains of the Roman church have been preserved in the choir and in the southern part of the 1735-1770 built new Baroque church. Next to it is a Calvary Chapel of 1735. Below the church, the Cross has been created, the final step, the Holy grave chapel from 1732, was built on the model of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem Church.
