Cathedral Square (Christchurch)

The Cathedral Square is the focal point of the New Zealand city of Christchurch. On it are located next to Christ Church Cathedral, the tourist center and nearby all the shops and a large gastronomic and cultural offer. During the Christchurch earthquake on 22 February 2011 a large part of the Cathedral Square was destroyed, the cathedral was heavily damaged.

Attractions

Center is the Christ Church Cathedral, it is one of the most important churches of the country and the landmark of the city. The cathedral had to tip a height of 63 m. Next to the church is Chalice, also called " Millennium Cone", a large cone- shaped sculpture which symbolizes 42 leaves of native plants. The modern building was designed by the New Zealand artist Neil Dawson. Another highlight and additional tourist attraction is The Wizard. The Wizard appears every day at lunchtime outside the cathedral to present his show.
