Catherine Martin (designer)

Catherine Martin ( born January 26, 1965 in Lindfield ) is an Australian scenes and costume designer. For her work on The Great Gatsby she was honored at the Academy Awards 2014 in two categories.

Career

Martin graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney. In 1992 she worked with Baz Luhrmann on the film Strictly Ballroom - The dance against all the rules, where she sang was responsible for the set design and won for her work two British Academy Film Awards. In 1996, she worked as a production designer on William Shakespeare's Romeo Juliet. The film, in which she was involved as a producer, earned her an Academy Award nomination and another BAFTA Film Award. A year later married Luhrmann and Martin.

Moulin Rouge presented the third collaboration between the two dar. The film was nominated eight times for an Oscar. Catherine Martin was able to win the only trophies for Best Production Design and Best Costume Design. Just one year later, she won a Tony Award for Best Production Design in La Bohème.

For Australia, she was nominated for an Oscar in 2009. For her work in The Great Gatsby, she was awarded at the Oscar ceremony in 2014 with the Oscar for Best Costume Design, and together with Beverley Dunn with the Oscar for Best Production Design.
