Catherine Stihler

Catherine Stihler (born 30 July 1973 in Bellshill ) is since 1999 a Euro MP for the Labour Party in Scotland for the Socialist Group in the European Parliament.

Life

Stihler reached in 1996 the degree of MA of Geography and International Relations at the University of St Andrews in 1998 and a M.Litt for International Security, also at the University of St Andrews. Stihler was 1997-1999 worked as a political analyst for Anne Begg, Member of the House of Commons.

Policy

Stihler is a member of the Labour Party. She was inside the party 1995-1997 Representative of the Labour Youth, Regional Executive of the Labour Party and in 1997 parliamentary candidate for the constituency of Angus. In the European Parliament in 1999 she became her party for Fisheries and 2004 for regional development. In 1999, Stihler campaign for parliamentary reform. She was 2000-2002 chairman of the Intergroup Working Group on Public Health, since 2002, chairman of the advocacy group multiple sclerosis. Since 2004 she has been the deputy leader of the Labour Party in the European Parliament.

From 2003 to 2005 she was a representative of the Members of the European Parliament on the board of the Labour Party in Scotland (2000-2001) and is since 2002 the " Parliament Magazine " with out. She is a member of the trade union Amicus, the Co-operative Party and the Fabian Society. She is a member of the Committee on regional Development and the Committee on Fisheries.
