Catherine Wellesley, Duchess of Wellington

Catherine "Kitty" Sarah Dorothea Pakenham (* January 14, 1773; † 24 or April 25, 1831 in Apsley House, Hyde Park Corner, Mayfair, London, England), the daughter of Edward Michael Pakenham, 2nd Baron Longford was ( in 1743 -1792 ), and Catherine Rowley († 1816). She was the wife of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, whom she married on April 10, 1806 in St. George 's Church in Dublin.

The marriage between Kitty and Arthur was not very positive. When he asked her for her hand for the first time, her family struggled against marriage. Only in 1804, when Arthur successfully returned from India, were allowed to marry the two.

However, they had little in common: While Arthur Wellesley was an imposing, on existing military discipline and order-loving man, Kitty was considered frivolous and easygoing.

Kitty and Arthur Wellesley had two children together: Arthur Richard Wellesley ( born February 3, 1807) and Charles Wellesley ( born January 16, 1808).
