Cathleen Rund

Cathleen Round ( born November 3, 1977 as Cathleen Proud in East Berlin ) is a German swimmer; in 1996 she was Olympic bronze medalist and 1997 European champion in 200m backstroke.

Life

She is the daughter of Evelyn Proud swimmer and water Ballers Peter round. In 1998, she graduated from high school at the Werner - Seelenbinderhalle School in Berlin. 1999-2005 finished round sports studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin.

From 2004 to 2006 she was a trainer at the SG Frankfurt and from 2005 to 2006 A- license coach of the DSV. From 2006 to 2011 he studied at the University of Hessian police and administration, and for a time as a member of the sports promotion group of the Hessian police. Around since 2011 doing service with the State of Hesse.

Cathleen round married the former swimmer and current head coach of SC Wiesbaden Oliver Grossmann 2009 and bears his last name.

Sporting career

Growing up in East Berlin, she was delegated to the children's and youth sports school " Werner soul ties " in the sports promotion system of the GDR. There she was trained from 1988 to 1990, together with other 18 girls, including with Franziska van Almsick, by Norbert Warnatzsch and introduced to the high-performance sports. Besides Spartakiadesiegen and winning the GDR championships from the years she made with a complete set of medals to gain recognition in the youth competitions of friendship in 1990 in Sofia.

In the political turnaround time the coach Warnatzsch left the sports club Dynamo and went to Indonesia. The training group took Dieter Lindemann. This led them to success at the European Youth Championships (1991 3 x Silver, 1992 2 x Gold, 2 x Silver, 1 x Bronze ) at the German Championships 1993 in Potsdam 1 × gold with Weltjahresbestzeit and the way to qualifying for the 1993 European Championships in Sheffield ( 4th place), the World Cup on the short track in Palma de Mallorca ( 3rd place) and WM on the long course in Rome in 1994 ( 21st place ). The qualification for the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992 had missed it. In 1992 and 1993 she achieved second place in the overall standings in the back of disciplines in the World Cup overall standings. In the time when Lindemann she swam several age group records over the back and capable of stretching on the short and long course that still have the parts inventory.

In 1994 they separated after a bad showing at the World Championships in Rome from their manager Lindemann and moved to her father Peter round to Biberach an der Riss. At the Olympic Summer Games in Atlanta she could about 200m backstroke bronze medal win behind Krisztina Egerszegi from Hungary and the U.S. American Whitney Hedgepeth, which she had almost caught on the finishing straight. Ultimately missing 6/100 seconds to win the silver medal. The father and daughter duo stayed together until the retirement of Cathleen. For winning the bronze medal in 1996 came a European champion in 200m backstroke in 1997 in Seville, a fourth place in 200m backstroke at the 1998 World Cup in Perth and a vice- European champion in 200m backstroke in Istanbul in 1999. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 she could no longer continue on from previous placements.
