Under coach Hallvar Thoresen it evolved in a row regulars. When he had to leave his place for followers Kjell Tennfjord, he already lost his place to the established Geirmund Brendesæther and Morton Pedersen, who were favored by the coach. As Brann in the 1997 season was able to celebrate the runner-up title, he came only to season 13 inserts, which he largely undertaken as an exchange player. The following season Brann had a catastrophic false start to the season, which Tennfjord kostetet the job. Guntveits situation changed then abruptly when Harald Aabrekk was committed as a coach. This trained him from the defensive to the offensive winger order, which he again received a regular place. In 1999, Brann finished third in the league and reaching the Norwegian Cup final, in which they, however, was defeated 2-0 Rosenborg Trondheim, again nearly the success of previous days. Guntveit had strong performances large part of this success and aroused the interest of other clubs. Three years in Scotland

Aberdeen's Danish coach Ebbe Skovdahl committed for the season with Arild Stavrum and Thomas Solberg equal to two more Norwegians that facilitated his integration into the team. In Aberdeen, he held a regular place from the beginning and brought responsive services. His achievements were overshadowed only by innumerable injuries that briefly demoted him to the audience. When he severely injured in the season 2001 /02 and was able to complete only 18 championship matches, his contract was dissolved at the end of the season. Aberdeen was in financial problems and the expensive Legionnaires could not afford.

Return to Brann

Then he moved back home and signed a second time at Brann Bergen. However, it took until 2003 before he could celebrate his comeback in the Tippeligaen. The acquired Aberdeen - time injury forced him the entire 2002 season for exposing. As a result, he developed back a regular place in the defense against Brann. In 2004 he was appointed by his former teammate and current coach Mons Ivar Mjelde captain. In this role, he led his team in the same year to win the Norwegian Cup title, which was the first title for Brann since 1982.

When Norwegian national team captain Martin Andresen was committed as a star player Brann for the 2005 season, everything pointed to a release Guntveits as captain of the team. But coach Mjelde sat once more on Guntveit as a leading player before fate struck a second time. Guntveit injured again heavy and fell from just under one and a half years. It was not until midway through the 2007 season, he was back in the team and even played 16 season games. His captaincy was transferred because of his long failure at Andresen in the meantime. In the 2008 season he was again able to complete only 13 missions due to multiple injuries, after rumors spread about his resignation at the end of the season. However Guntveit extended even during the season his contract until 2010.
