The Catoosa County is located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Ringgold.

Geography

The County is located in northwestern Georgia, bordered to the north Tennessee and has an area of 421 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. The county is bordered clockwise to Whitfield County and Walker County.

History

Catoosa County was formed on December 5, 1853 from parts of Walker County and Whitfield County. It was named after a word the Cherokee Gatusi, which means " special hill " or " certain place on a mountain " and fits in very well with the hilly landscape of the County. In 1863 it hosted the Battle of Chickamauga, one of the bloodiest battles in the American Civil War, which meant the temporary end of the advance of Union troops in the Confederate territories.
