Catoosa County, Georgia
The Catoosa County is located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Ringgold.
Geography
The County is located in northwestern Georgia, bordered to the north Tennessee and has an area of 421 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. The county is bordered clockwise to Whitfield County and Walker County.
History
Catoosa County was formed on December 5, 1853 from parts of Walker County and Whitfield County. It was named after a word the Cherokee Gatusi, which means " special hill " or " certain place on a mountain " and fits in very well with the hilly landscape of the County. In 1863 it hosted the Battle of Chickamauga, one of the bloodiest battles in the American Civil War, which meant the temporary end of the advance of Union troops in the Confederate territories.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Catoosa County 53 282 people in 20,425 households and 15,400 families. The population density was 127 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 96.39 percent White, 1.26 percent African American, 0.31 percent Native American, 0.71 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.39 percent from other races groups; 0.93 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.17 percent of the total population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 20,425 households out of which 35.4 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 60.6 percent were married couples living together, 11.0 percent were single mothers and 24.6 percent were non-families. 21.3 percent of all households and 8.5 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 3.00.
25.8 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.1 percent between 18 to 24, 30.8 percent between 25 and 44, 23.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 11.9 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 93.8 males statistically every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.2 males.
The median income for a household was $ 39,998, and the median income for a family $ 45,710. Males have a median income of $ 31,746, women $ 23,790. The per capita income was $ 18,009. 6.4 percent of families and 9.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
