Cattenom

Cattenom ( German Katte Mayrhofen, Luxembourgish Kettenuewen ) is a commune with 2704 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Thionville -Est, is the capital of the canton Cattenom and seat of the municipal association Cattenom et environs.

Geography

The municipality is situated on the Moselle about eight kilometers north of Thionville and about twelve kilometers south-west of the border triangle France - Luxembourg - Germany. To Cattenom include the districts Homeldange, Husange, Sentzich and Warpich.

Neighboring communities of Cattenom are Breistroff -la -Grande in the north, and Fixem Gavisse in the northeast, Malling and Kœnigsmacker in the east, Basse -Ham in the south, Thionville and Hettange -Grande in the southwest and Boust in the northwest.

Language

In addition to a French Moselle-Franconian dialect spoken in and around Cattenom of the elderly population, which is very similar to the Luxembourg.
