Cauayan, Isabela

Cauayan City (Filipino: Lungsod ng Cauayan ) is a Philippine component city in the province of Isabela, in the administration of Region II, Cagayan Valley. It has 122 335 inhabitants ( census May 1, 2010 ) living in 65 barangays. It is classified as a community of the third income class in the Philippines and as a partially urbanized. The name Cauayan means bamboo in the language of the tribe of Gaddang, the first settlers in the area.

Cauayan City is located in the center of the province, on the western foothills of the Sierra Madre and on the banks of the river Cagayan. It is situated 375 kilometers north of Manila and is accessible via the Marhalika Highway. It has an airport, which is sometimes served by the airline Cebu Pacific four a week. Your neighboring municipalities are Alicia and Angadanan in the south, Benito Soliven in the east, Cabatuan, Luna and San Mateo in the West, Reina Mercedes in the north.

Cauayan was founded in 1740 on the banks of Cagayan. After a series of floods, the settlement was moved to higher ground in the early 19th century. On 30 March 2001 the municipality was awarded by the President Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo of the status of a Component City ( city ).
