Cauquenes Province

The Cauquenes Province (Spanish Provincia de Cauquenes ) is a province in the Chilean Maule Region. The capital is Cauquenes, about two thirds of the inhabitants live in the province.

Geography

The Cauquenes Province lies in the southwest of the Maule Region and is bordered to the north by the province of Talca, on the west by the Pacific Ocean, to the south by the province of Ñuble in the Región del Bío -Bío and on the east by the province of Linares.

History

1786, the Partido de Cauquenes was formed in the Intendency de Concepción. When the province of Maule was founded on August 30, 1826 Cauquenes was determined as the capital. At the same time Delegación de Cauquenes was founded. 1833 Departamento de Cauquenes was founded. In the 1970s the modern province of Cauquenes was formed.
