Cavalese

Cavalese ( German outdated Gablös ) is a town with 3993 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the autonomous province of Trento (Trentino ), about 20 km south of Bolzano and 30 km from Trento located. It is the administrative seat of the Fiemme Valley ( Val di Fiemme ).

History

Until 1919 Cavalese belonged to the princely county of Tyrol and thus to Austria - Hungary.

Cavalese was a garrison town of k.u.k. Army. 1914 was stationed here the Czech Military Police Battalion No. 12.

Infrastructure

In Cavalese the Fleimstalbahn reached ( German: Tennenbach ) after overcoming the hill of San Lugano again the valley floor.

Serious accidents

In the international headlines the place fell by two serious accidents leading to Cermis cable car:

On 5 January 2013, at Cavalese an accident in which a group of eight Russian winter sports enthusiasts, who was traveling with a snowmobile including an attached load carriage on the " Olimpia II ' departure in Cermis ran off the runway occurred. They rushed a about 100 meters deep down the slope. Six of them were killed, two survived seriously injured.

Sports

By Cavalese leads the cross-country ski marathon Marcialonga, one of sixteen rounds of the Worldloppet series.
