Cavatina

The cavatina ( diminutive of Cavata, Italian) is a simpler form of opera aria with one to two piece construction.

The cavatina has a gentle, singing full and less passionate character than the aria. At the beginning of the history of opera was the two-part arias still a recitative ahead, while the Cavatinas had song -like character. But this difference is blurred in the course of the 19th century. So Gioacchino Rossini wrote throughout Cavatinas for arias. These were then called scenes.
