Cayo Largo del Sur, also known simply Cayo Largo ( German " long island " ) is 25 km long and 3 km wide, the second largest island of the Cuban archipelago Canarreos in the Caribbean Sea.

The largest island of the archipelago is the Isla de la Juventud. Columbus is said to have visited on his second voyage in 1494 the island. Pirates it served as a hideout and base. The island consists of Ooid - limestone, which was deposited in a shallow lagoon. The westerly coral reefs are the main attraction for the dominant diving tourism. Furthermore, crystal clear waters, white sandy beaches and observed wildlife attract tourists to Cayo Largo.

On Cayo Largo no locals live, as the workers of the hotel returning after about 20 days back to their families to the neighboring islands.

Cayo Largo has its own airport with a 3 km long runway and a ferry service to Isla de la Juventud and the Cuban mainland. The north of the island is covered with mangroves and salt marshes.
