CB Zaragoza

Club Baloncesto Zaragoza (Spanish: Club Baloncesto Zaragoza), also known as the longtime sponsor name CAI Zaragoza, is a Spanish basketball club from the capital of Aragon Zaragoza. The first team played from 1981 to 1996 in the first division and counted at times of the strongest teams in the country. Due to financial problems, the club went from 1996 back from the professional basketball and has since operated only junior and amateur teams.

History

CB Zaragoza, was summoned as a splinter group of CN Helios, a sports club already denied the Spanish first division and took in the Korac Cup launched in 1981. The new club established itself immediately in the top field and was in 1983 one of the founding members of the new League Association Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto. In the third season the Aragonese won the first major title in the Spanish Cup, the team sat down with 81:78 in the final against FC Barcelona through. Both in the play-off for the Spanish Championship and the Korać Cup of the season 1983/84 CAI Zaragoza reached the semifinals. Also from 1985 to 1989, the team placed in the top league in field and reached four times in a row the round of last four in the play-off for the title.

The 1995/96 season ended CAI Zaragoza while in seventh place in the championship, but due to financial difficulties they lost their license. The club withdrew as a result of the professional game operation and focused on youth development and amateur sport. The first team plays in the Primera División Nacional, the fifth division in Spain.

As the successor to CB Zaragoza Zaragoza 2002 Basket was launched in 2002 year. Although the new club languid, just like its predecessor, due to sponsorship by the bank Caja de Ahorros de la Inmaculada the name CAI Zaragoza and plays red and white in the traditional club colors, is neither personnel nor institutionally linked to CB Zaragoza.
