Cecil Harcourt Smith

Cecil Harcourt Smith ( born September 11, 1859 in Staines, Middlesex, † March 27, 1944 in Stoatley, Bramley, Surrey ) was an English classical archaeologist and director of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

The son of a lawyer was educated at Winchester College and worked since 1879 at the Department of Greek and Roman Antiquities of the British Museum. From 1895 to 1897, the Museum to Athens ordered from him, where he led the British School at Athens organized as new director. In 1904, Smith Keeper of Greek and Roman Antiquities (Head of the Department of Greek and Roman Antiquities ) at the British Museum, from 1909 until his retirement in 1924 he was director of the Victoria and Albert Museum.
