Cedar Hill is a city in Dallas County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located on U.S. Highway 67 and the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway in the south west of the county, in the central north east Texas, about 100 miles from Oklahoma to the north away and has a total area of 91.3 km ², of which 0, 3 km ² water surface.

History

The city was founded around 1850 and the first post office opened in 1852. 1856 a tornado destroyed most of the buildings and nine people were killed. 1890, the population had grown to 500 people. 1897, the city was renamed in Cedar Hill, but in 1900 the old spelling was resumed.

After moving the Northwood Institute of Michigan to Cedar Hill in 1966 and the commissioning of the drinking water reservoirs Joe Pool Lake in 1989, the population grew rapidly to 19,988 in 1990 and in 2000 to 32 093 residents and 786 businesses.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 32 093 people in 10,748 households and 8,738 families. The population density was 352.5 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 56.67 % White, 33.61 % African American, 0.50 % Native American, 1.98 % Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander residents from the 4.87 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 2.32%, Mixed Race and 11.91% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 10,748 households, 49.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 63.8 % were married couples living together. 14.4% were single mothers and 18.7 % were non-families. 15.0 % of all households were single-person households.

32.6 % of the population were under 18 years old, 7.7 % from 18 to 24, 35.8 % 25-44, 19.2% from 45 to 64, and 4.6 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 32 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 86.8 males.

The median income for a household was $ 60,136, and the median income for a family $ 63,416. Males have a median income of $ 41,360 versus $ 32,207 for females. The per capita income was $ 23,389. 5.5 % of the population and 4.2% of families are below the poverty line. Of which 7.7 % have children under the age of 18 and 6.5 % of those 65 or older.
