Cedrelopsis grevei, also referred to as Katrafay or Kathrafay, is a flowering plant in the family Rutaceae ( Rutaceae ). It occurs only in Madagascar.

Description

Cedrelopsis grevei grows as a bush -like tree that reaches the plant height 2-9 meters and a diameter of 0.2 to 1.5 meters. The leaves have a length of 12 to 20 cm and width 6-8 cm.

Occurrence

Cedrelopsis grevei thrives in dry, semi-arid and sub-tropical Bioklimaten in the provinces of Toliara ( Tulear ), Mahajanga and Antsiranana (Diego Suarez) at altitudes 0-900 meters.

Use

The bark of the trunk and the leaves are used for the extraction of essential oils, which are used in traditional medicine for the relief of malaria, fever and muscle pain.

The wood is used as timber.

Endangering

Cedrelopsis grevei counts since 2009 to the endangered species (VU for ' vulnerable ' = endangered) - but is not yet listed in the IUCN.
