Cedric Maxwell

Cedric Bryan Maxwell ( born November 21, 1955 in Kinston, North Carolina, United States ) is a former American professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets in the NBA. The 2.03 meter tall Maxwell played the position of power forward and occasionally small forward. The " Cornbread " said Maxwell was a member of those Celtics teams that were 1981 and 1984 NBA champion, and in 1981 elected as the Most Valuable Player of the final round.

Career

Maxwell was pulled in the NBA Draft of 1977, 12 out of the Celtics. Because of its resemblance to the character " Cornbread " in the movie Cornbread, Earl, and Me in 1975 he was called " Cornbread ". The then weak Celtics experienced a miserable season and won only 29 of their 82 games season, and Maxwell scored by the bank Coming 7 points and 5 rebounds per game. The 1978-79 season was unspectacular for Boston, but the filigree Maxwell established himself as a regular player and now scored 19 points and 10 rebounds per game. As a Boston superstar winger Larry Bird undertook in 1979, the Celtics began the Renaissance. With Maxwell close to the basket, the legendary Bird of the middle distance and veteran Tiny Archibald to build the Celtics reached the 1981 NBA Finals against the Houston Rockets of center Moses Malone. Before the fifth major game score was 2-2, and Bird had hitherto played moderately. Maxwell jumped for him, led Boston to wins in Games 5 and 6, and was voted " Most Valuable Player " ( NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award) selected the final series.

In the following years, Maxwell had to deal with it, that his replacement Kevin McHale ousted him in the reserve. Nevertheless, Maxwell was in the NBA Finals in 1984 for heroes. In the 7th game against the arch-rival Los Angeles Lakers, he encouraged his doubting teammates, " to hop on his shoulders " and laid a strong foundation for the game, the all-important victory.

But then got Maxwell's career a sudden bend when he fell out with Celtics patriarch Red Auerbach and was deported in 1985 to the weak Los Angeles Clippers. There he played properly (15 points and 8 rebounds per game ), but never came back to the vicinity of the playoffs. When the Houston Rockets he trailed off his career. After it came to reconciliation with Auerbach in the 90s, pulled the Celtics Maxwell's jersey number 31 back forever.

He is one of four players who needed more than 800 NBA games to reach the first triple double: Karl Malone (860 ), Patrick Ewing ( 834 ), Tony Parker ( 826 ) and Cedric Maxwell ( 824 ).
