Cees Stam

Cees Stam ( born November 2, 1945 in polder aan de Zaan in today Zaanstad ) is a former Dutch racing cyclist and four-time world champion stayer.

Cees Stam was active almost exclusively as a stayer and at six-day race. In 1968 he won his first title and became Dutch champion of amateur stayer. As a result, he was seven times Dutch champion of the posts, as an amateur and as a professional ( 1971-1979 ). 1968 and 1969 he occupied at Track World Championships in second place, in 1970, he won the world title with pacemaker Joop Stakenburg.

In 1973 Cees Stam first world champion of professional uprights, as well as in 1974 again with pacemaker Joop Stakenburg. In 1977, he was able to repeat this success, this time behind Bruno Walrave. In 1976 he was also European champion. In 1974, he presented with 82.998 kilometers on a new hour record.

Stam also started at 48 six-day races, but none could win it. After the end of his active career, he was " Bond Coach" of the uprights in the Netherlands and worked as a manager of cycling clothing company " AGU " until his retirement in 2007. However, he still operated as a pacemaker.

Cees Stam is the father of racing driver Danny Stam. His son is the racer Henk Havik, grandson of racer Yoeri Havik. Published in 2007 a ​​book about him and his family cycling.
