History

Celebrity Cruises was founded in 1989 as an independent cruise company by the Greek shipping company Chandris. Zenith and more cruise ships put into service: After the first cruise ship with the meridian were built by the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg ships Horizon ( Pacific Dream today). This was followed by the new buildings of the Century Class, Century, Mercury and Galaxy.

In 1997, Celebrity Cruises was acquired by Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, together they operate since then as Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.. For current fleet consists of eleven ships. The last newbuilding in a series of five ships was delivered in October 2012 by Meyer Werft. All ships of the company are located in the five-star segment. On 4 May 2007 Celebrity Cruises announced to market the two smaller ships Azamara Journey and Azamara Quest under the newly created brand Azamara Club Cruises as a deluxe product.

Current fleet

The ships carry on the chimney the logo of the shipping company. The "X" stands for the Greek letter "chi" as the logo of the Chandris fleet. Since 2003 is the first part of the name of the ship in the fleet "Celebrity ". In recent years, the five- ship Solstice Class at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg was built. The last ship of this class, Celebrity Reflection, will in October 2012 on the operation. Between 2010 and 2012, also the older ships of the Millennium - class were modernized and extended facilities of the newer Solstice class.
