Celestino Migliore

Celestino Migliore ( born July 1, 1952 in Cuneo, Piemonte, Italy) is a Roman Catholic Archbishop and Vatican Diplomat.

Life

Celestino Migliore studied at the diocesan seminary in Fossano and received his doctorate in canon law at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome. He received on 25 June 1977, the ordination. After studying at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy and language training in French and English, he entered the diplomatic service of the Vatican. From 1980 to 1984 he was a member of the Apostolic Delegation in Angola.

In 1984 he joined the staff of the Apostolic Nunciature in the USA. In 1988 he moved to the Nunciature to Egypt and 1989 in Poland. From 1992 to 1995 he represented the Holy See at the Euro Europe in Strasbourg. In 1995 he was Under - Secretary of the Department of the Roman Curia for relations with the United States in Rome; In addition, he led high-level delegations in China, Vietnam and North Korea. He participated in many conferences of the United Nations. He also taught as a visiting professor at the Lateran University.

On 30 October 2002 John Paul II appointed him Titular Archbishop of Canosa and in succession by Renato Raffaele Martino for permanent observer at the United Nations in New York. He received his episcopal consecration, the Pope personally on January 6 next year in St. Peter's Basilica; Co-consecrators were Leonardo Sandri, substitute of the Secretariat of State, and Antonio Maria Vegliò, secretary of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches.

On 10 June 2010 he was appointed Pope Benedict XVI. Apostolic Nuncio to Poland. He will be succeeded by Józef Kowalczyk.
