Cell of Origin

Cell of Origin (COO, dt cell localization ) is a method of mobile positioning. It is determined with the help of a GSM network where a mobile device and its users are. The COO provides the geographic coordinates of the radio cell into which the device the user has registered. The accuracy depends on the size and shape of the radio cells. The smaller the radio cell, the more accurate the determined position. In the urban area, a position accuracy of about 300m is possible. The determination of the signal propagation time they can be improved by an order of magnitude.

The Cell- ID method is also used by the Björn Steiger Foundation for cell phone emergency call location.
