Celso Emilio Ferreiro

Celso Emilio Ferreiro Míguez ( born January 6, 1912 in Celanova; † August 31, 1979 in Vigo) was a Spanish writer and journalist who wrote in Galician language.

Ferreiro Schuler attended a Padres Escolapios. He joined an early stage of the Galician nationalist movement and founded in 1932 with Xosé Velo Mosquera the Mocedades Galeguistas de Celanova. In 1934 he participated in the founding of the Federación de Mocedades Galeguistas. The following year he made his debut as a writer with the poetry book Cartafol de poesía. During the Spanish Civil War, he was drafted to the pro-Franco troops.

After the Civil War he studied law in Santiago de Compostela. He wrote for various newspapers and magazines. In 1940 he settled in Pontevedra and married Luisa Moraima Loredo, with whom he had four children. From 1950, he lived as an attorney in Vigo. He published at this time in the Camilo José Cela led Papeles de Sor Armadans and Alvaro Cunqueiros Faro de Vigo.

With the volume of poetry Longa noite de pedra (1962 ) is Ferreiro established as a legacy of the poet Manuel Curros Enríquez. In 1963 he founded with Xosé Luis Méndez - Ferrin and other Galician intellectuals Unión do Povo Galego. In 1966 he emigrated to Venezuela, where he directed the Cultural Center of the Hermandad Galega, the Journal Irmandade and the Escola Castelao and supervised a radio program. From 1973 lived Ferreiro in Madrid, where he oversaw Aula de Literatura Galega the Ateneo de Madrid.
