Celso Machado

Celso Machado ( born January 27, 1953 in Ribeirão Preto ) is a Brazilian guitarist and composer.

Machado was born into a musical family: his father, who died when Machado was two years old was, as well as five of his six brothers professional musician. Celso Machado stepped age of seven on the road musician. When he was twelve, he was an orphan and lived in the next few years, with an aunt, a grandmother, and finally with the family of his older brothers.

He appeared in bars, theaters and on television and played both classical guitar music as well Chôros, Baiãos and Sambas. He worked in the early 1970s in São Paulo in a quartet with three of his brothers. With his albums Violão Brasil (1978) and Violão he established himself as an outstanding young guitarist in Brazil.

In 1982, he became acquainted with the French guitarist Thierry Rougier who invited him to France. From 1984 to 1990 he lived in France. In 1985, he took with Rougier on the album Imagens do Nordeste, in the following year he took part in several festivals in Vancouver, where he has lived since 1990. In 1994 he released the album The Magic Circle: Music for Two Guitars, which also included several original compositions. The three CDs varal (1997), Jongo Lê (1999) and Capybara (2005) were nominated for a Juno Award. Overall, Machado has published more than ten albums of his own. In addition to works for guitar, he also composed several film scores.
