Celsus (usurper)

Celsus was one of the so-called Thirty Tyrants in the Historia Augusta and allegedly anti-emperor Gallienus to. He is, like many another usurper in the time of the kingdom crisis of the 3rd century, as a non- historical.

Historia Augusta suggests that the former military tribune Celsus lived on his estate in the province of Africa, when he was persuaded by Vibius Passienus, the proconsul of Africa, and Fabius Pomponianus, the dux limitis Libyci, tends to proclaiming the emperor. Allegedly, he was thrown to the dogs after seven days of Galliena, a cousin of Gallienus, was murdered in sicca to the west of present-day Tunisia and his body.
