Celta de Vigo

Celta Vigo ( officially: Real Club Celta de Vigo) is a in the city of Vigo in Galicia resident of Spanish football club.

The Celtiñas (small Celts ) play at home with light blue jerseys and white pants. Your home ground is the Estadio Balaídos with a capacity of 31,800 spectators.

History

The club was through the merger of Real Vigo Sporting Club (also known as Vigo FC ) on 28 August 1923 and Real Fortuna Vigo founded. Vigo Sporting had been in 1908 in the final of the Copa del Rey. Celta has played in the Primera División for many years, but could still not win a title in championship or cup competition.

In the 1970/71 season Celta Vigo remained unbeaten in their own stadium and was known as the " Giant Killer " known. Celta finished the season in sixth place and was thus qualified for the UEFA Cup. However, one difference already in the first round against FC Aberdeen from the competition.

From 1997 to 2003 Celta could regularly play in the top of the Primera División. 2000/ 01 remained one throughout the season in the top six clubs in the league and never fell back to a rear table space.

4th place 2002/ 03 has been reached, and thus the entry into the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. The team qualified for the group stage and was in the UEFA Champions League 2003 /04 advance to the second round, before the club was beaten Arsenal.

In the Spanish championship in the form of the club in 2003/ 04, however, was disastrous, and the season was finished in second to last place in the table. It followed the descent into the Segunda División. With the second place in the Segunda 2004/ 05 Celta succeed but again the promotion to the top division. Already in the following season, the club qualified by reaching the sixth table space again for the UEFA Cup, where they failed to Werder Bremen in the second round. At the end of the season 2006/ 07 Celta Vigo was only a disappointing 18th place and had to again in the Segunda División. Here the further descent could be avoided sporty in the 2007/ 08 season; relegation for economic reasons could be averted only by recourse to the Spanish bankruptcy law. In the season 2011/12 Vigo returned as a table runner back in the Primera División and could scarce prevent direct relegated again with table number 17 in the 2012/13 season. Nevertheless, separated the club from head coach Abel Resino and replaced him with Luis Enrique.
