Survey

Unlike other screenplay software ( Final Draft, etc.) is the all-in -one concept with Celtx in the foreground. The entire preparation phase of a project can be realized with only one program, thus facilitating its implementation. Creating a script, notes, characters, storyboard sequences, distribution of tasks and detailed reports for cast and crew can be implemented in software. As projects on a publicly accessible server can be stored, the joint work of several team members is possible. Files can be organized so that they are accessible only to certain members or can be exchanged and published. In this way, the frequent printing of screenplays and working on a project can be done much faster possible disappearance.

Celtx scripts can either be printed directly, or can be exported to HTML or PDF.

The application uses the extensive LaTeX Typesetting to the scripts without deviation in the accepted industry standards to format. This is done on the Celtx server, that is, the file must first be transferred to this. The PDF function can only be done this way. Scenes or dialogue sequels ( Continueds and Mores ) and pagination are automatically generated and are optional. Is used to ensure safety between the desktop application and the Celtx server encryption technology.

The function index cards allows a better overview for particularly large projects. These are also automatically created for each new scene may be colored and described. In addition, you can change the order of the individual scenes using drag and drop.

Visualization tools

Storyboards can be inserted into the media project and provided with descriptions. This feature provides an additional component of the course planning and helps the project before production to visualize. With the slideshow, the images can be played back.

Celtx further includes the function to digital photos, integrate scanned documents, video clips and audio files in the project. The Celtx format is designed so that all files are in a kind of container (actually in a ZIP archive). Thus, there is a media project of only one file.

Organizing tools

A new type of organization in Celtx are catalogs, lists on which detailed information of the project and output. Each new Celtx file contains a main catalog, which contains the most important elements of the story started. In addition In addition to catalogs can be created to contain the specific production information from various categories.

Celtx includes a scheduler in the form of a diary. These are entered information for the realization of events in conjunction with the script. The close link with the project offers the advantage that specific calendar pages for the individual team members easier. The calendar pages can be printed, but can be viewed by the Celtx client - server to other team members.

Celtx the client server is often used as a backup system. To prevent accidental overwriting or to access older versions, snapshots can be created that also remain stored on the server.

Cooperation

Only by setting up an account all the features of Celtx are released. This account is password protected and the encryption it is not possible to view a project by outsiders, unless it is intentional. The uploader can share his project with other members and a barrier-free collaboration is possible. After the release of version 1.0, the account system was renamed Celtx Studio and after the conversion, including a charge. Membership costs currently (2010) $ 4.99 a month or $ 49 a year and can be used in each of five people at once. Downloading the software remains free of charge.

Criticism

The software works offline limited. Thus, the program created content such as PDF files only with online access to the servers of the manufacturer, unless one uses the print function in conjunction with independent auxiliary software such as Ghostscript (and its GUIs). About the manufacturer itself, the Gray First Corporation, little information is available on the Internet. All payment transactions including credit card data transmission run their own server of the manufacturer. A very scarce Privacy Policy Celtx is published on the Internet. The First Gray Corporation, whose names under the same address in Canada as Celtx is, has not published.

The website has from the desktop software under the MPL. The desktop software itself is no license and copyright notice.
