Cem Karaca

Cem Karaca ( born April 5, 1945 in Antakya, † February 8, 2004 in Istanbul) was a Turkish rock musician and a representative of the Anadolu rock movement.

He is the only son of the Armenian Irma Felegyan ( Toto Karaca ), a theater and film actress, and Mehmet İbrahim Karaca of Azerbaijani.

Initially he played in cover bands, he, in 1967, his first Turkish-language band Apaşlar. He became a member of the group Mogollar 1972. After Mogollar had dissolved, he founded Dervişan.

He was accused of stirring up with his songs the population against the government. After the military coup of 1980, a warrant for his arrest was issued and he was expatriated. Since 1979, Karaca therefore lived in exile in the Federal Republic of Germany, where he also sang in German. It was not until 1987 he was amnestied by the then Turkish Prime Minister Turgut Özal and was able to return to his homeland.

In relation to his work in exile in Germany in 1984 published his German -language album The wogs is remarkable, in which he themed with songs like My German friend or came to people, especially the situation of Turkish guest workers and immigrants in Germany.
