Cenes de la Vega

Cenes de la Vega is a municipality that lies just a few kilometers east of the provincial capital, Granada in Spain. Cenes de la Vega is located on the road that leads up to the Sierra Nevada, and on the river Genil.

History

Written sources indicate that the place was declared in March 1572 to the municipality. The foundation, however, lies further in the past and was already held at the time of Arab domination. At that time Cenes de la Vega was a part of the ring around the city of Granada, the (Spanish: the bell ) as La Campana was known. This name comes because within this ring was heard the bell of the tower Torre de la Vela from the Alhambra. During construction work in " Venta " found - quarter of Cenes de la Vega is a series of tombs that date from that era.
