Centennial is a city in Arapahoe County in the U.S. state of Colorado, United States. It is one of the southern suburbs of Denver and consists largely of terraced settlements, which can be accessed by curving road networks with many dead ends.

Geography

The catchment area of the city is 72.3 km ² and therefore occupies position 4 of the largest cities in the metropolitan area Denver - Aurora.

History

The town was officially founded by a referendum in September 2000 on 7 February 2001 in Arapahoe County. Previously, the largest settlement in the new municipality of dependent census -designated place Southglenn, which was conducted with 43,520 inhabitants, 25.2 km ² in the census in 2000. The name still lives in the mall opened in 2010 Streets at Southglenn, which simulates a traditional shopping street with individual shops and thus represents a contrast to the large, enclosed halls that make up the majority of shopping centers in the United States.

Airport

Centennial Airport, formerly Arapahoe County Airport, is one of the busiest airports for commercial aviation ( private aircraft, small aircraft ) in the USA. The airport is located outside the city's centennial. The airport was named after Centennial not because he already received his new name 30 years before the city's founding.
