Criticism

" [ ... ] There are many dance films - and somehow they all show the American Dream ', the dream of the little ballet rat to be a star. Since Center Stage makes no difference - a bit Chorus Line, a little bit Flashdance - and yet it's also fun again to watch the mixture. Encouraging especially the many young and unused faces in the ensemble. "

" [ ... ] Center Stage is certainly a great dance movie (even if the particular art and aesthetics of ballet might not be deducible for anyone), but weakens enormously in its plot, mainly because of the fact that the least stereotypical subplots unfortunately also the least developed. Overall, visually very nice to look at, but the content just as flat as a two-part episode of Melrose Place. It actually seems that the better teen movies were all made in the eighties. "
