Céntimo

The Centimo ( Spanish) or Centimo ( Portuguese) is the hundredth subunit of different currencies in the Spanish- and Portuguese- speaking countries.

The following currencies in Spanish-speaking countries are divided into 100 Céntimos:

  • The Costa Rican Colon
  • The Paraguayan Guaraní
  • The Peruvian Nuevo Sol and previously of Inti, but not the old Sol before 1985
  • The Venezuelan Bolívar Fuerte and previously also the old Bolívar

The Spanish Peseta was also divided until the introduction of euro notes and coins in 2002 in 100 Céntimos. Colloquially called the Spaniard today the euro cents as " Centimo ".

During the Portuguese Escudo was divided into centavos exists or existed, the term " Centimo " as a designation of the subunit of currencies of some former Portuguese colonies:

  • The Sao-Tomean Dobra.
  • The Angolan Kwanza ( since the currency reform of 1999).
  • The Mozambican Metica, a planned currency for which coins were minted in 1975, but which was never implemented.
