Central Archive of the Berlin State Museums

The Central Archives of the State Museums of Berlin is a scientific institution that collects files from all individual collections and facilities of the National Museums in Berlin and provides. It documents the history of the National Museums and its predecessor institution, the Royal Museum. In addition, it also manages art scientific collections, such as the estates of Wilhelm von Bode, Anselm Feuerbach, Carl Wilhelm Kolbe, Adolph von Menzel, Christian Daniel Rauch, Johann Gottfried Schadow, Karl Friedrich Schinkel and some other artists and scientists.

The Central Archives of the State Museum is located in the archaeological center in the vicinity of the Museum Island. Head of the Central Archives is Dr. Jörn Grabowski.

History

A formal archive for the collection and administration of the files of the Royal, later National Museums in Berlin was established in 1960 and since then has his seat at the Pergamon Museum. In 1965 the Archives of the Old National Gallery was founded as a documentation device in an art historical range. It collects information about the art of the 19th and 20th centuries, even to modern art and the so-called " degenerate art ". Mid -80s, Building Archives of the National Museums was established, which collects the building plans of each building. In 1987, the three archives were merged to the central archive of the National Museums in Berlin with Endarchivcharakter.
