Central Archives of the State (Italy)
The Archivio Centrale dello Stato ( ACS) in Rome is the central archive of the Republic of Italy. It is affiliated as an autonomous authority to the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage. The ACS is based at Piazzale degli Archivi in the Roman district of Europe.
Tasks
The Central Archives has to keep the statutory task of historically important documents of state or public bodies and make them usable. In special cases, stocks of important individuals or private institutions, shall be borne when a public interest exists. The total portfolio currently includes (2014) 110 kilometers of shelving.
My archives have the offices of the President and the Prime Minister, the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, the Constitutional Court and the Foreign and Defence.
In addition to the central state archives in Rome are available in 103 of 110 Italian provinces, state archives, as well as 35 branches in cities that are not capital of a province. These public records that are subject to the Regional Directorates of Cultural Heritage Ministry, keep not just documents of public authorities in local government, but also the stocks of the old Italian states from before the unification of Italy. One example is the State Archives of Venice, which was stored among other historical documents of the Republic of Venice.
History
The Central State Archive was established in 1875 as the Archivio del Regno or " Archives of the Kingdom " to keep a record of the Italian nation-state founded in 1861, which were no longer needed for current business. For a long time, however, the central archives was no independent means; until 1953 it was kept together with the State Archives of Rome. Reasonable separate seat for the ACS was found in the EUR district, in a building that Mussolini had intended for there scheduled World Expo 1942. In the 1950s, the monumental building was completed in accordance with the requirements of the ACS. The move took place in 1960. Various modifications and upgrades were carried out in the 1990s.
