Central Area

The Central Singapore District ( or central) is one of the five Community Development Councils ( CDC ) of the city-state of Singapore. With over 970,000 residents of Central Singapore District is the most populous of the country, nearly four-fifths of the residents are Chinese.

It is traversed by the Singapore River and includes in addition to the Central Business District and Kampong Glam, Chinatown and Little India and is divided into the districts of Ang Mo Kio, Bishan - Toa Payoh, Moulmein - Kallang, Tanjong Pagar, Sengkang West, Whampoa and Radin Mas.

The Central District is not to be confused with the central region of the state planning division of Singapore, with which it coincides in part.
