Central Australia

Central Australia today referred to the central region of the Australian continent, which is located in the wider area of ​​Alice Springs. Sometimes this also the name Centralia used. In addition, there was also a no longer existing Australian territory, which was called Central Australia.

The main town in Central Australia is Alice Springs, whose inhabitants are Anglo- Irish origin in the majority. A quarter of the population is, however, also from Aborigines. These in turn provide, with the exception of Barrow Creek, almost the entire population of all other settlements in this area. Of the approximately 120,000 people living in Central Australia, about half are aboriginal.

Territory

Central Australia Australian territory existed as of 1 February 1927 to 12 June 1931. Was at the initiative of George Pearce, an Australian Federal Minister (Minister for Home and Territories ) created. This was justified by the fact that the Northern Territory was too large to be managed adequately. The system established by the North Australia Act 1926 Central Australia - the boundary line to the north ran along the 20th degree of latitude south latitude - was, however, after about 4 years back with North Australia Northern Territory combined.
