Central City (Kentucky)

Central City is a city in Muhlenberg County in the U.S. state of Kentucky. She had in 2000 in the census 5,893 inhabitants, its surface area is 13.5 km ².

Central City is located on the Green River, was established in 1826 as Morehead 's Horse Mill. 1873 the settlement was incorporated into the municipality Stroud City. After a railway line (Owensboro and Russellville Railroad ) was built, there was a renaming in Owensboro Junction. Since 1882, the city takes its present name.

About three kilometers east of Central City was in the 20th century, the settlement Brownie, a residential town of miners. Here in 1937 Don Everly, one of the Everly Brothers was born. On Labor Day 1988, the brothers gave in her hometown of a homecoming concert. On this occasion, the Chestnut Street was renamed Everly Brothers Boulevard.
