Central Japan Railway Company

Central Japan Railway Company (Japanese东海 旅客 鉄 道 株式会社, Tōkai ryokaku tetsudō kabushiki gaisha, in short:东海JR, JR Tōkai ), often referred to as JR Central, is one of the seven successor in 1987 privatized Japanese National Railways.

In fiscal year 2006 ( 1 April 2006 to 31 March 2007) achieved the JR Central in operating business ( almost exclusively railways) revenues of 1.2 trillion yen (about 7.2 billion euros ) and a profit of 380 billion yen ( 2.2 billion euros ). The largest shareholders of the Company (as at 31 March 2007) are Mizuho Corporate Bank ( Mizuho Financial Group ) and the Master Trust Bank of Japan ( 46% owned by Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, which holds even more three percent of JR Central ), each of which holds about four percent of the shares. The operations department of the Japanese Agency for Railway, Transport and Technology ( JRTT ) has now sold its shares completely.

History

JR Central was founded on 1 April 1987, after the state railway company of Japan was privatized and split.
