Central Province, Zambia

The central province (English Central Province ) is a province in Zambia and is located in the center of the country. The Central Province is the only province that is adjacent to all the other eight provinces. The Central Province has 1,012,257 inhabitants ( census 2000) and comprises 94,393 km ².

The Central Province is divided into six districts Kabwe with the provincial capital, Mumbwa, Chibombo, Kapiri Mposhi, Mkushi and Serenje. Economically it is rather uneven, but can be characterized as predominantly rural. The surrounding area of Mumbwa is considered the breadbasket of Zambia.
